Chomedey questions
My Chomedey garage has springs along the side tracks, not above the door. Is that a problem?
Those are extension springs, and they are common in older Chomedey garages. They are not inherently unsafe, but they must have a safety cable running through the middle of each spring. Without it, a spring that breaks becomes a projectile. If yours has no safety cables we will either add them or quote converting to a torsion system above the opening.
Can you fit an opener in a townhouse garage with almost no ceiling clearance?
Usually yes. A wall-mount jackshaft opener mounts on the wall beside the torsion bar and needs no ceiling rail at all, which solves most tight-headroom garages in the newer Chomedey developments. Low-headroom track kits are the other option where a rail is preferred.
